Sturn DH Bike: Ready When It’s Ready

The Sturn is our single-speed, jack drive downhill bike.

V1 of the Sturn came in our early days, then V2 around 5 years ago, built single-speed and with a jack-drive suspension design. Brett Wheeler raced it to very, very nearly win the Masters European DH Champs and the overall Portuguese National Downhill Championship Masters title – not bad in a field dominated by carbon, multi-links.

The Jack Drive design allows the suspension and drivetrain to run through the same pivot, meaning no chain growth and the ability to run the bike single speed without dropping chains. The effect is beautifully supple rear suspension and zero distractions. Perfect for dirtbags that spend the summer lapping bike parks (Boosted Bryn!). And, perfect for racers that want a silent, zero-hassle setup.

During 2025 Joe got a rumbling to give the Sturn an overhaul, and got to work. We produced three prototypes and got testing – helped by our mate James Whitby in the UK, local legends Oli Kidner and Isaac Anders, BMX World Champion Dr Jason Richardson over in the USA, amongst others.

The protos ripped, but we weren’t fully satisfied. The more we tested, the more we learned, tweaked and got excited about making changes. We broke some stuff, updated some stuff, upgraded some stuff. Simple bikes aren’t necessarily simple to make, despite what the armchair engineers keep telling us on the forums!

And here we are – early Summer 2026, and the Sturn is getting there. But it’s not done yet. Testing, tweaking and refinement continues.

In short, it’ll be ready, when it’s ready!

The video shows James Whitby putting some laps into his prototype Sturn, built using Suntour suspension.

Thanks to James and James for making this video, and helping to tell the Sturn’s story.
