Simply Simple

Light on gears, heavy on fun

Single-speed, single pivot. Riding bikes shouldn’t be complicated.

The first thing you need to know about the Beady Little Eye is that because the chain line is offset from the main pivot/BB centreline. There could be a little bit of bob from pedalling, so you need to run a firm shock with lots of low-speed compression damping.

But the frame is designed to have a very regressive leverage ratio, so if there is a big hit, the suspension moves. So you need to think of the BLE as a hardtail, run with a super low BB and zero sag, but that moves on big hits.

It sounds bad on paper, but in practice rides really great and is genuinely the most fun you can have on a bike. All the fun of a hardtail but without the jarring landings or big hits.

There’s also just enough movement at the top end to reduce trail chatter and give some extra grip, not like a bike that sits at 30% sag, but more than a hardtail.

Sep 2018
“The ride quality offered by the steel tubing gives exceptional grip and a comfortable ride. By fitting high-quality suspension units, the Murmur can be a seriously fast and capable bike.”

Fall 2020
“The Starling Murmur’s feel is second to none. Its raw stainless steel front triangle is elegantly simple and sleek, round tubing speaks of the beauty found in function over form. The Murmur is a bike that’s built to be ridden, plain and simple.”

Sep 2018
“This is simply a shredder of a mountain bike… The idea of a simple, low-maintenance frame that I’m not afraid to ride hard, put away wet, and toss into the weeds on occasion, is appealing. Perhaps a bit indicative of my predilection for slightly off-kilter rides, but this is the kind of bike I’d keep for a good long time, and never get bored of. “
